For most holidays around the Capital Region, many service provider’s close up shop and employees take a little (much deserved) time for themselves. This can be a serious challenge for those experiencing homelessness who depend on those services. Where are they going to go for a meal, a shower, or just a warm dry place out of the elements.
In honour of the family they serve and BC’s inaugural Family Day, Our Place is not only open today; they are holding a Family Day Celebration.
The day will start off with lunch and live music followed by midway games and prizes throughout the drop-in centre. Movies will be shown in the computer lab for those who want a more relaxing time. Cake will be served in the afternoon and then a special dinner will follow.
“The family we serve are often forgotten and thought of as outcasts in our society,” said Don Evans, Executive Director of Our Place. “This day will be about celebrating each person who comes into Our Place to let them know they are loved, cared for and are part of our family.”
Volunteers will be on hand to assist with the day’s celebration. It will be a fun filled Family Day for everyone involved.
